Many sailor sail solo across the oceans and passages. I have sailed solo before. It is quite peaceful. The time alone with nothing but you and the elements. That is not what this blog is about, that one will come. This blog is about all the crew that have joined me and helped me move my home around this planet. I have met and lived with people from a variety of counties, cultures, ages, experience, language, diets, and most important of all attitudes.
I have had crew from Ireland, Spain, Argentina, Netherlands, Turkey, Germany, Malta, Australia, France, and the USA. Men, woman, children, and elders. I have had crew that have never had a day off shore and professional sailors with several ocean crossings. I have had crew that could hardly find few words for us to communicate.
As I said before the most important skill or asset that any of them have brought was their attitude. A good attitude will fix a multitude of other deficiencies. Someone who is willing to learn and pay attention yet never sailed a day in there life is much better crew than one who may have vast experience and a poor attitude. Crew that we may only have a few words to communicate with a good attitude will find a way.
Not to forget that the attitude that I as captain bring does have a great influence on the whole mood aboard the boat. It is always to remember that we are here for the fun. This is the place that I have dreamed of being for decades.
So to all the crew that have helped me live this dream and grow my attitude and person, a big thank you.
